Frequently Asked Questions
What Excel file formats are supported?+
Both .xlsx (Excel 2007 and later) and .xls (older Excel format) files are supported. The tool handles single and multi-sheet workbooks.
Will all my worksheets be included in the PDF?+
Yes — every sheet in your workbook is converted and included as its own section in the output PDF.
Is there a file size limit?+
Yes — files up to 20MB can be uploaded. Most spreadsheets are well within this limit.
Does the PDF look the same as Excel?+
The PDF renders your data as clean, formatted tables with alternating row colours, bold headers, and proper column widths. Complex custom Excel formatting (charts, conditional formatting, formulas) is not preserved — the raw data values are.
Are my files stored after conversion?+
No. All uploaded and processed files are automatically deleted from our servers within 1 hour. We never read or share your documents.
Do I need Microsoft Excel installed?+
No. The tool works entirely in your browser and on our servers — no Office installation is required on your device.
What is Excel to PDF?
Excel to PDF conversion transforms a spreadsheet workbook (.xlsx or .xls) into a fixed-layout PDF document. Every sheet in the workbook becomes a formatted section with bold column headers, alternating row colours, and clean table borders — making spreadsheet data easy to read and share without requiring Microsoft Excel.
When should you use it?
Convert Excel to PDF when you need to share financial reports, data tables, or spreadsheets with people who may not have Excel installed. PDFs are universally readable, can't be accidentally edited, and maintain consistent formatting on every device and printer — ideal for client deliverables, invoices, and archived records.
How Excel to PDF works under the hood
TryMyPdf reads the uploaded Excel file using the xlsx library, extracts the raw cell data from every worksheet, and renders each sheet as a formatted table inside a landscape A4 PDF using pdf-lib. Column widths are calculated proportionally, alternating row shading improves readability, and sheet names are labelled as section headings. The resulting PDF is generated server-side and returned as an instant download.
Common use cases for Excel to PDF
Financial Reports

Invoices & Quotes

HR & Payroll Records
Archive salary sheets, attendance records, and leave trackers as tamper-proof PDF documents.

Tips for best results
Keep column counts reasonable
For best results, keep your spreadsheet under 10–12 columns. Very wide sheets may have columns trimmed to fit the page. Consider splitting wide sheets into separate tabs before converting.
Use plain cell values
Formulas are fine — the tool reads the calculated values. However, complex formatting like merged cells, conditional colours, and embedded charts won't be preserved in the PDF.
Compress the PDF if needed
After converting, if the resulting PDF is large, run it through the Compress PDF tool to reduce the file size for email or portal uploads.
